How to use LostaFound

Offline compass and directions

  1. Open Survival tools, hold the phone flat in portrait orientation, and choose Start compass. Browser sensor support and permission vary. No account, internet or GPS access is needed for readings. Relative orientation, missing sensors, poor accuracy and stale readings do not produce a direction. Stop or leaving the screen stops sensing.
  2. Before departure, use Save tools for offline use while online, wait for the saved confirmation and test the page and guide offline in the same browser. Browser storage may be cleared. Account screens, private data and map tiles are never saved by this tool. Android 1.7 bundles its native compass and the same guide, including an optional signed magnetic declination adjustment.
  3. Bearing updates default to every 0.1 second as sensor data is available. Brief sensor interruptions are filtered; persistent faults and stale readings clear the direction. Normal bearing updates change only the number and diagram; fixed-size reading/status areas keep controls in place. Sensor warnings change only when the state changes. The guide shows numbered visual steps first, with Expand detailed instructions and Collapse detailed instructions controls. All diagrams and original details work offline, including in Android 1.7.4. The guide includes extra bottom scroll space and native system-bar insets. It explains N/S/E/W, map orientation, Polaris, a clock-and-Sun estimate for both hemispheres with daylight saving correction, and distance estimates using a map scale or a measured perpendicular baseline. Examples distinguish horizontal distance from hiking distance and explain bearing uncertainty. Obtain local declination before departure. Carry a physical map and compass. Offline maps, waypoint navigation and first-aid modules are preparation recommendations, not included features. Physical phone compass accuracy has not been verified.
